2A Patriots Summer Update

Greetings 2A Patriots and I hope that you are having a relaxing and happy summer. I’ve been enjoying my summer but have stayed busy too!

NRA 2A Day

Last month was my third time hosting an NRA-Institute for Legislative Action (ILA) tent at Arthur’s Shooters Supply Customer Appreciation Picnic in Berlin on the eastern shore. There was music, good food, fun, and lots of people who stopped by our tent eager to support our grassroots efforts, including Congressman Andy Harris, MDGOP Chair Nicole Harris, Senator Mary Beth Carozza, and Delegates Barry Beauchamp and Wayne Hartman.

Our message to all who stopped by: Join us on the frontlines to protect our 2A. https://www.nrailafrontlines.com/join

We have another NRA 2A Day scheduled for Saturday, October 18th at Scott’s Gunsmithing in Glen Burnie and I’m working on dates for several others. If you have a favorite gun store, please contact me and we can arrange an NRA 2A Day at a site near you!

In the News

On July 4th President Donald Trump signed the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” into law, delivering to law abiding gun owners freedom from an unconstitutional and punitive tax on suppressors, short-barreled firearms, and “any other weapons” as defined by the National Firearms Act (NFA).

The bill contains a provision that eliminates the burdensome $200 excise tax imposed by the National Firearms Act (NFA). While the final bill is far from perfect, this bill represents the first major reduction of taxes imposed on law-abiding gun owners in decades and the first significant repeal of NFA provisions since its inception nearly a century ago. Additionally, this legislation opens the NFA to new legal challenges which could finally put an end to the NFA and its infringement on our Second Amendment Rights.

Lobbying 101

Now is the time to get to know your state representatives because they’re not in session and can meet with you in a more relaxed setting. Even if they do not agree with you on all the issues, it is important to develop a relationship with them. You, the individual advocate, are the most critical factor in the eventual success of any effort – especially when advocating for our Second Amendment freedoms!  Be an active citizen, not a silent voice.

Update: The email addresses for Maryland state legislators have changed.

Rather than ending in "senate.state.md.us" or "house.state.md.us"

Emails now end in "senate.maryland.gov" and "house.maryland.gov"

For instance, my representatives are:

Senator Shaneka Henson shaneka.henson@senate.maryland.gov

Delegate Seth Howard Seth.Howard@house.maryland.gov

And just so you know, the 2026 Legislative Session will convene in Annapolis January 14 through April 13, 2026.

Get ready – your individual liberty is at stake!

And in closing

Our NRA EVP, Doug Hamlin, recently sent a message to the dedicated NRA staff and I would like to share part of it with you:

As we head into the Fourth of July weekend, I want to take a moment to thank each of you for your commitment, your hard work, and your steadfast dedication to our mission — the defense of freedom.

Independence Day is more than a celebration. It’s a reminder of the values we hold dear — liberty, responsibility, and the unyielding belief that freedom must be defended and preserved for future generations. That belief is what guides us every day here at the NRA.

I’m sending that message to you too – thank you for your support and all your help, in the past and as we go forward, to preserve America’s freedom.

Best,

Cathy Wright
